What does Orlando really need to make it a world class city?

According to the Sentinel...

Here is the vision: a high-quality performing-arts center to expand residents' cultural horizons; a new arena to host concerts and the region's major professional sports team; a remodeled stadium to save a tradition-rich bowl game and attract other name-brand games.
I think they're all wet what's really needed to make Orlando more attractive to businesses and tourists is to address our traffic problem. We can do that by calling on major employers like Disney and Lockheed Martin and ask them to stagger their workforce. Next we need to synchronize traffic lights throughout the Orlando area.

Less Mike Schiano on the air . . . What a douche bag.

10. Less people with bad attitudes.

9. Less people who don't know a lick of English.

8. Less people who aren't in a hurry to go anywhere.

7. Less redneck crackers.

6. Less a**hole city commissioners like Ernest Page.

5. World class arts, entertainment and sports.

4. World class community involvement and support.

3. A world class transportation system.

2. World class customer service in the service industry.

And the number one thing Orlando needs to be a world class city . . .

1. A world class mayor!

Anyone who thinks that people are going to use public transportation in Central
Florida as long as they have the option of using their own transportation is
dreaming.
Just go to the post office, tag office, or any other public place where there is no option,
and you will understand after an hour, why.

There is great confusion as it relates to the ARTS in Orlando. First of all...the "arts" never addressed...the painters and other visual artists...do not have a decent place for education. Crealde and Ivanhoe are worthless as Ivanhoe is a place for tea sipper snobs who would not know which end of a hake brush to use or worse! We do in fact need a true arts center, such as the one in Toledo, OH, costing $5,000,000, paying for itself after one year in operation. The FRINGE is the backbone of Glenda Ghostown Goddess creator. Why not give family a place for the arts and education. Also check out Rhode Island Institute of Design and Munson Williams Proctor in Upstate, NY...the BEST two places for all around fun and art education. The festivals in New York's M. W. P. Intitute...make Orlando and Winter Park look like flea markets full of cheap art. True. It is all on the Web. Educate the people with more about the Visual Arts and Education possibilities. So far, this country will never meet All American City standards with Fredericks and Glenda con artisanship pulling OUR strings.

When Red Bug Lake Rd. was widened to 4 lanes, and rerouted to build the mall in Oviedo, they installed a 1 mil
plus monitoring system, for the lights. The County touted it was state of the art, and monitored the spped and flow
of traffic, so you could go from 436 to Oviedo, and not get one red light. That lasted about 2 weeks, and people
complained there was no turn into Publix going West on red Bug, at Tuskawilla and Red Bug. Soo, they came
back and installed a turm lane.

I wonder what happened to this million dollar plus state of the area equipment.

Re:Staggered Work Times

Pat,

Just curious is anywhere else in the country incorporating this idea?

Is it working?

Not much into calling in, but love to listen.

Thank You,
Keith

Good Morning;

US Navy 22 years, formerly stationed Norfolk, VA, & Oceana Naval Air Station.
It is well known that US Navy Commanders heavily coordinate with local industry to stagger workshifts.
This is a joint understanding between USN, Local Government and Employers.
Specific area is Hampton Roads, VA

Same exact principle applies to San Diego Military region.

Some shifts report at 0500, 0530 and so forth.
Of course if you report at 0500 hours that means you will get off work 1300-1400 hours.
Report 5am, end work day: 1:00pm/2:00pm

cordially,

CPR

Detroit Area - Ford/GM/Chrysler all the Auto plants in the Metro Detroit Area stagger their work shifts to get the employees in & out of the parking lots! The plants are huge so there are shuttle busses between plant entrances & the parking lots. Works for them!

Detroit Metropolitan Airport also staggers it's work shifts & runs shuttle busses for the employees to & from the parking lots.
