Today's Hate Mail

Hi, Pat.

I'm a liberal with a fatal attraction to right-wing talk radio and often listen to your show while driving to work between 7 and 7:30. We disagree on virtually everything, but I do sense in your tone and treatment of callers an essential decency and milk of human kindness (albeit 2%) missing in the likes of Savage, Burke and the anorexic harridan Colter. Anyway, I've been fascinated and appalled by your weekly interviews with the U.S. military flak about the "real story" in Iraq, in which you gamely, desperately search for any scintilla of "good" news like a pathetic old miner panning for gold in an exhausted creek. There you were again this morning, panning like crazy, virtually begging the flak to say that what is happening now in Iraq is NOT a civil war. I almost felt sorry for the old miner when the flak - in all good intellectual conscience - could not give you the answer you were hoping for, against all evidence. It's sad that defenders of this fiasco have come to this - a semantic argument over whether 100 dead a day is a actually a "civil war." As I said, Pat, I sense in you a fundamentally decent and obviously bright guy. But it must be said of you and Limbaugh and Gallagher and Medved and Hedinger (give my regards to Bud) and all the other right-wing talkers who beat the drums for this war....there is a lot of blood on your microphones. How many more American lives - except your own of course - are you willing to sacrifice for this tragic folly perpetrated by the arrested adolescent in the White House?

Oh I forgot to mention that Greg Dawson works at the Sentinel.
