Congress set for late-night Schiavo debate Parents hope bill will force return of daughter's feeding tube

WASHINGTON - The Senate passed a bill that could prolong Terri Schiavo’s life while House Republicans, stalled by Democrats, scrambled to bring enough lawmakers back to the Capitol for an emergency vote early Monday.

I have NEVER watched so much CSPAN in my life CUMULATIVELY as I did last night. I watched it from 9pm until 12:30am when I couldn't keep my eyes open because some of those Democrats speak like they are hitting the bong and can't get out of the monotone drone.

But it really proved to me a few things:

- I could tell who was paying attention to the issue and who wasn't based on the content of their speaking.

- I could tell who was more educated overall, and it's no surprise that the Republicans far outmatch their fellows across the aisle in speaking with eloquence, broad vocabulary, annunciation, diction, and enthusiasm.

- That most politicians, sadly even many Republicans are NOT detail oriented. Case in point, they kept sharing anecdotal evidence for their "expertise" to speak on the subject of end of life issues by talking about their TERMINAL relative who was in teh same situation. TERRI SCHIAVO IS NOT TERMINAL!!!! BIG difference. HUGE!!!!

- And that the people truly do have a voice when they pool their voice together. This has all come about because of our collective demands for the Congress to step in. Our phone calls, faxes, emails, and demands for media attention have brought this into the public light. It may be just one case, but it's given us a target for our attention so that we can help ALL people before this happens to us.

Also, thank you to the bloggers out there who've bounced back and forth off of each others' investigations to get the word out to those who care so we can in turn bring the collected information to the media. I would never have known about Matt Drudge's presentation of the audio with Terri or her bone scan posted on the net had it not been for bloggers.

We can turn this country around into a CULTURE OF LIFE! We should be setting the example for the world since the world is always looking at us.
