Brits Begin Racial Profiling for Terrorists

British law enforcement has begun to use racial profiling to identify and search terrorist suspects as the hunt continues for a possible third terrorist cell in London - with most government officials expressing at least tacit support for the controversial new policy.

Interviewed by the Daily Mail on Sunday, British Transport Police Chief Constable Ian Johnston first broached the issue, saying his officers would not shy away from targeting those groups most likely to present the greatest threat. "Intelligence-led stop-and-searches have got to be the way," he told the Mail. "We should not waste time searching old white ladies." Read the rest HERE.

Meanwhile back here in the States...

Legislation Would Allow Profiling

A State Assemblyman says he plans to introduce legislation allowing cops to use racial profiling to target Middle Easterners when searching bags.

Dov Hikind, a Brooklyn Democrat, says the NYPD's new policy of randomly checking bags at subway entrances may be politically correct, but it won't make passengers safer.

Hikind said police should focus on young Middle Easterners called and called it - insane - to look for bombs in the bags of 75-year-old grandmothers.

Racial profiling is illegal, but Hikind says he will introduce legislation to remove that prohibition.
