The Real Scandal

President Bush delivered a very tough radio address responding to the controversy over the New York Times report on National Security Agency surveillance. The gist, according to Byron York at National Review's The Corner: "the surveillance program is critical to security, legal, and carefully reviewed at various intervals -- and the leak of its existence was illegal". Bush also revealed that "Leaders in Congress have been briefed more than a dozen times on this authorization and the activities conducted under it". The real scandal is that NYT deliberately decided to harm national security, publishing a 12-months-old "scoop" to try to downplay the impact of free elections in Iraq. UPDATE. As Glenn Reynolds writes on Instapundit: "This story was bad for Bush on Friday, but it'll be bad for a lot of other people by next week"

Hat Tip to TheRightNation.

Mark Levin has some quick FISA background and explains the damage these leaks do to national security.

Democracy in Iraq will be a Shia Islamic government akin to Iran. Iraq's population is dominated by Shia's. Through the deomocratic process that we imposed on them, Iraq will result in our worst nightmare. People in the middle east prefer governments that resemble theocracries. Don't think that democracy in Iraq wil result in some kind of Jeffersonian republic. Keep dreaming. We will have created a clone of Iranian democracy. And yes Iran is a democracy where people vote for their leaders. They have more women in their parliament than we have in our Congress. Their democracy works, the only problem is that they do not like the US mostly for our support of the corrupt dictatorship of the Shah and our unrealistic support of anything that Israel does.

Sorry but its not..Stk market is headed up TO 11,0000, consumer confidence is up. Prices on goods are down as is unemployment. Ford and GM layoffs are not a sign of a bad ecomomy but of thier own poor management . As for high heath care that is also not a sign
of a poor ecomomy its caused by many factors!! Oh and by the way the deficit is also headed down! When Bush entered office we were not in the black we were headed into a recession!!
