Look what somebody turned in!

Orlando Police Sgt. Barbara Jones holds a surface-to-air missile launcher that had been turned in to the Orlando Police Kicks for Guns 2007 program on Friday. Citizens can turn in a gun with no questions asked and receive a pair of sneakers. The event was held at the Citrus bowl on Church Street. H/T Orlando Sentinel

I'm sorry! If you turn in a surface to air missile launcher, I think we need to be asking questions. No free shoes for you!

Several TV reports used the phrase, "More than 300 guns were taken OFF THE STREETS in this program." Yet it seems all of the guns turned in came from homes! How again does this make our streets safer? It's nothing more than a "feel-good" activity and does nothing to protect anybody from street crime.
