Agents Raid Work Site, Arrest 66 Illegal Aliens

Thanks to a tip from Congressman John Mica 66 illegal aliens have been detained from the new federal courthouse construction site in downtown Orlando.

How do you stop this activity? Fines? Jail time for contractors who hire illegals? The 66 had forged Social Security cards.

Great topic this morning! I take offense with some of the bigoted comments from some of the callers saying, "low work ethics" of "Anglos". One of my Grandfathers worked as a janitor for 40 years after WWII. He put 2 sons through college on his pay and sacrifices. My other Grandfather had to quit school at the age of 9, during the Depression, to pick rice in Louisiana to help feed the family, and at age 17 went to work in the Conservation Corps. It was there that he learned to operate heavy equipment in the construction of roads in the Pacific Northwest. After which, he started a construction company in SW Louisiana building roads and subdivisions. I too, worked briefly in the construction community as a laborer in concrete. I helped pour and finish plant floors and a few towne home communities in SE Virginia prior to entering the military in 1990. It was hard, yet satisfying, work. Why satisfying? I can say to my children I helped to build the United States. I took pride in my, all be it novice, contribution to plants which give more Americans the opportunity to be employed, and I helped to build homes for families. I learned, no matter what you do, be a ditch digger or an accountant, be the best damn ditch digger or the best damn accountant. Why? There is no honor in being anything less.

If you think illegal immigration is bad now, wait until CAFTA is passed and signed. Central American Free Trade Agreement. No matter how much we, as legal citizens, by birth or legal immigration, nothing will be done unless something worse than 9.11 occurs and it can be, without a doubt, directly linked to the southern border. There is too much money changing hands to stop it now. If these aliens "want" to be a citizen of the U.S. then we should ask them where their loyalties lay. U.S. or "back home". We have "entitled" ourselves out of lower costs to get the job done. Regulated ourselves into worker "gaps". If we really want to have lower costs of construction, then we must suck it up, tie our boots, pick up a hammer, and get back to building our nation. If we don't, "out sourcing" will kill Ms. America.
