Should a Bigger, Stronger Fence Be Built Along the Mexican Border?

A group of border activists are pushing for a bigger, stronger fence to be built along the U.S. border with Mexico, from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean, Fox News reports. There is an existing fence, but in some places it is just a wire strand or metal rail. In sections where it is already strong, made of steel or razor wire, immigrants have to travel long distances to get around them.

The activists behind Weneedafence.com, which is running a national TV ad, are pushing it as a security issue, saying terrorists could easily slip into the country amid illegal immigrants. The group's Colin Hanna told Fox News, "What are people from Yemen and Syria and Iran doing in Mexico trying to enter the U.S. illegally?" He continued, "We are absolutely not anti-Hispanic, we do not think the fence should be perceived as anti-Hispanic or anti-Mexican, we are not anti-immigrant, we are pro-immigration, but we are pro-legal immigration."

Some Hispanic activists, however, oppose the idea of a border fence. Angela Sanbrano of the Central American Resource Center, and open-borders interest group, told Fox News about a fence, "I think what we're doing is criminalizing work and criminalizing the need of families to be together."

Do you think Congress would go for the idea of a fence, or would they be worried about losing the influential Hispanic vote?

Put up a high voltage electric fence all the way across. That should deter people from climbing it.Forget about the costs. Our lives are more important. We don't need anymore mexican or hispanic criminals here cause we have enough of our own to deal with, and we sure as hell don't need any terrorists here. Also, it's not racist to put up a fence cause it would be protecting all Americans including good, honest, hardworking Mexican who are here leagally. The terroists dont care whether you are black, white, cuban, asian, mexican, etc.

We need a bigger, better fence for sure, but I doubt many politicians have the political courage to support this. I hope they prove me wrong. I'm signing the petition.

Will we also have to pay to build a fence along the US/Canada border? I'm all for it! I don't think that Mr. way wants this though... he just wants hispanics out of "his country". Mr. Jeb, you are so ignorant, a response is not even due to you.
Can we call canadians "canucks du south"?

Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans will do much about this problem. The Democrats want all illegals to come in so they can eventually get more minority votes. The Republicans want them in to help make their corporate buddies get richer with cheap labor.
