Should fathers be able to abort their financial responsibility?

The National Center for Men has prepared a lawsuit--nicknamed Roe v. Wade for Men--to be filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Michigan on behalf of a 25-year-old computer programmer ordered to pay child support for his ex-girlfriend's daughter.

The suit addresses the issue of male reproductive rights, contending that lack of such rights violates the U.S. Constitution's equal protection clause.

The gist of the argument: If a pregnant woman can choose among abortion, adoption or raising a child, a man involved in an unintended pregnancy should have the choice of declining the financial responsibilities of fatherhood. The activists involved hope to spark discussion even if they lose.

Pat,

I was unable to call in this morning when you were talking about this - the part of this debate that is very interesting to me is how groups such as NOW, NARAL, and Planned Parenthood will have such as tough time arguing their point without hurting their own platform for abortion. Here is an example quoted from the president of NOW, Kim Gandy:

(CBS News online):...The president of the National Organization for Women, Kim Gandy, acknowledged that disputes over unintended pregnancies can be complex and bitter.

"None of these are easy questions," said Gandy, a former prosecutor. "But most courts say it's not about what he did or didn't do or what she did or didn't do. It's about the rights of the child."

WHAT!?! The rights of the child? They do not seem to care about the rights of the child BEFORE it is "offically" born! When did they start to care about the baby's rights?

I could not find any other statements on the websites for any of the above named groups - I'm not sure they can say anything without sounding hypocritical and trampling on the very "equal rights" they claim to be fighting for.

Like your friend Mike Gallagher would say "we have to be consistent" - BOTH people are responsible and BOTH should care for the child. How does the old saying go about responsiblity that goes something about "laying in the bed you make..."

I don't care what the woman tells you. If you want to avoid this situation in the future, put your slicker on before you go play around in the rain, men!

why can the woman go out and have an abortion without notifying the father. i think the father should have a say in keeping his unborn child from being aborted!

Women make their choice when they spread their legs. Men make their choice when they meet their date. But if you insist on being a "playa," get an agreement in writing--and notorized--that you are absolved from all responsibility. And get it before the pants come off.
(by the way, if a woman tells you she can't get pregnant, RUN!!! She is a lying whore who is looking for a man off of whom she can leech!)
