Sen. Gary Siplin Turns Himself In (Watch Gary run from the cameras)

WESH2 is reporting...

ORLANDO, Fla. -- After an eight-month investigation, an arrest warrant was issued Monday by the State Attorney's office for State Sen. Gary Siplin, D-Orlando.

It's the first time that a sitting state senator in the district has ever been charged with a crime related to his office, WESH 2 News reported.

Siplin turned himself in in Polk County on Monday afternoon, officials said. He was fingerprinted, booked and given all of his paperwork. Officials said he then bonded out of jail.

Siplin is facing two charges, including a felony grand theft charge and a misdemeanor charge for allegedly misusing the services of officers and state employees. The charges stem from allegations of using public employees to work on his private campaign.

"This amounts to grand larceny under the law of Florida," said State Attorney Lawson Lamar. "This case centers on a person in a position of trust utilizing approximately three months of labor funded by taxpayer dollars for his personal campaign in his personal politics." MORE
