Cardinal urges legal action against Da Vinci Code
VATICAN CITY - In the latest Vatican broadside against "The Da Vinci Code", a leading cardinal says Christians should respond to the book and film with legal action because both offend Christ and the Church he founded.
Cardinal Francis Arinze, a Nigerian who was considered a candidate for pope last year, made his strong comments in a documentary called "The Da Vinci Code-A Masterful Deception."
Arinze's appeal came some 10 days after another Vatican cardinal called for a boycott of the film. Both cardinals asserted that other religions would never stand for offences against their beliefs and that Christians should get tough.
"Christians must not just sit back and say it is enough for us to forgive and to forget," Arinze said in the documentary made by Rome film maker Mario Biasetti for Rome Reports, a Catholic film agency specializing in religious affairs.
"Sometimes it is our duty to do something practical. So it is not I who will tell all Christians what to do but some know legal means which can be taken in order to get the other person to respect the rights of others," Arinze said.
"This is one of the fundamental human rights: that we should be respected, our religious beliefs respected, and our founder Jesus Christ respected," he said, without elaborating on what legal means he had in mind.
If this was a film slamming Mohammed and Islam cities would be burning right now.

I think religious leaders need to "grow up". If Christianity (or any other religion) can't stand some scrutiny and some alternate theories without people being sued, or murdered, then life is no better than the days when people were killed or excommunicated for blasphemy.
The DaVinci code is a book. The bible is a book. Both are subject to inaccuracies. If the bible is the unerring word of god, then how can the myriad descrepancies be justified? If God is all-benevolent, then why do children die of cancer, floods etc...? It's "His Will" right?? There's a much more reasonable scenario... bad things happen.
Anyone with a decent education can state that earthquakes will occur, nations will rise against each other etc... I am not a god, but I can prophesize that the price of gas will fluctuate, there will be hurricanes in 2006 etc... Will my prophecies fulfilled and undeniable? I guess we'll see...
Other than in the bible (A book), where's the evidence???
Gee, I just thought it was an entertaining book........
As a former roman catholic, the catholic church doctrine is no different than the loonincies set forth in the muslim religion. All a bunch of loons, supported by weak minded brainwashed followers. The Da Vinci Code is probably true from what I was programmed with after 12 years of catholic schooling. I finally broke the spell and woke up. I'm off the coolaide now! Send me to limbo.. Oh, almost forgot the catholic church did away with limbo a few years ago... Lets just make it up as we go along... Pass the collection plate..
There is too many secrets that we just don't know...or that we don't want to know...
The church was rulling us before and still today...what's new...
just be black sheep and do whatever they tell you to do...
someome who desire to know the real truth...not the church one!
So what if Jesus married Mary Magdaline. He would have been doing what every Jewish man of his time did. In most cases they were 12 year old virgins. This custom is still followed by many ultra orthodox Jewish communities in Israel.Get over it!
The Catholic Church is so afraid of critcism that it has to ban books and movies thus causing them to make more money than if they just shut their mouth. I am Catholic and I plan to see this movie. I already read the book and it was great. Even if Jesus married Mary Magdalene so what. Does that mean I have to become an aethist? The religious nut jobs that post here need to grow up. They are little more than a Christian version of the Taliban.
