Living large on the Taxpayer's dime!

If you're making close to $160,000 a year shouldn't you be able to pay for your own car?

Scott Maxwell
reports in the Sentinel...

In fact, Washington's The Hill recently found some House members spending more public money on car payments than many of their constituents spend on housing.

Ric Keller, R-Orlando, uses $578 a month for a Mercury Mountaineer.

Cliff Stearns, R-Ocala, spends a tad more, $599 a month, for his Town & Country.

Tom Feeney, who spends less, $458, but actually drives a (gasp) foreign car -- a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder.

Most members of Congress get reimbursed for driving their own cars. But some lessees say that driving across sprawling districts can lead to reimbursements for thousands of miles in a single month, arguing that the leases can actually save taxpayers money.

Florida Democrat Alcee Hastings, who spends a whopping $799.47 a month leasing an Infiniti M45. He's got good taste!

Ohio Republican Robert Ney, who presides over the House Administration Committee that approves the leases, drives a 2005 Lincoln -- that costs taxpayers $1,078 a month. Sweet! Is it gold plated?

I would like to know exactly what the law says. Where are they driving to and from that they are allowed to get reimbursement? If they are talking about driving around D.C. then I would argue you can’t drive thousands of miles there every month because there is simply too much traffic!
