'Made in Mexico' Uniforms Miff Border Cops

Isn't it ironic?

'Made in Mexico' Uniforms Cause Many U.S. Border Patrol Agents to Bristle

WASHINGTON Nov 27, 2005 — The labels inside the U.S. Border Patrol uniforms have been making many federal agents feel uneasy. It's not the fit or feel of the olive-green shirts and pants, but what their labels read: "Made in Mexico."

"It's embarrassing to be protecting the U.S.-Mexico border and be wearing a uniform made in Mexico," says T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, a 6,500-member union.

Agents and lawmakers are concerned about the consequences if the uniforms for agents charged with combating illegal immigration fall into the hands of criminals or terrorists.

"If we're manufacturing uniforms in Mexico, what's to stop someone from walking across the border in a Border Patrol uniform?" asked Rep. John Carter, a Republican from Round Rock. "How do you know who are our guys and who are their guys?"

"How do you know who are our guys and who are their guys?", totally agreed with that comment. We have been dealing with that headache called -mexico for long time now, I strongly believe we should have made a stop there before going to -iraq if you know what I mean.

Illegals wanting to impersonate Border Patrol by wearing one of their uniforms could probably as easily wear one 'made in America'. That the uniforms are made in companies in Mexico probably is a savings to the U.S. taxpayer.

Border Patrol has plenty reasons for disgust with the various governments' contradictory policies on border control, and apparently that's spilled over on the tags on the uniforms. But I think it's really a non-issue.

Uniform companies in the US cannot compete in prices with Mexico. They need to hire some illegals to come in and make the uniforms here!

exchanging clothes of the enemy and such has always been the way of espionage and infiltration. If a security agency, such as border petrol is not aware of this, then same on them.
