Middle-school career choice could pay off

The Floridas Legislature is looking at laws to make middle school students begin the process of choosing what they want to be when they grow up.

Good idea or bad idea?

Does the bill require Middle School students to choose a career? I was at the Florida House of Representatives a month ago when they were discussing the new Education Bill. The Middle School Reform that was included in this bill included students taking a semester course in 7th or 8th grade on career exploration. Nothing in the bill made students choose a "career". Now the High School reform did include setting up a system where students would choose "majors". The "majors" system is designed to allow students who are not planning on going to college the chance to gain expertise in a technical field and qualify for certification right out of high school.
