The Goose Is Loose!

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting...

Former Magic TV analyst cleared
Jury acquits Givens of girl's sex charges

Jack "Goose" Givens emerged from the courtroom Friday with tears heavy in his eyes and no smile on his face.

Yes, an Orange County jury had just acquitted the former Orlando Magic television analyst of four sex crimes involving a teenage girl. But Givens realized how close he came to having an unhappy ending.

His tone wasn't celebratory; it was sedate, almost spiritual.

"I just want to thank God for all that he has taught me through this period of time. I've had a lot of issues to deal with -- least of all is pride," Givens said after thanking his lawyers, his family and especially his wife for their support since the allegations surfaced more than 14 months ago.

"I have been humbled greatly through this experience," he said. "I'm going to be a much better man because of this."

Prosecutors figured they had strong evidence in the instant messages Givens sent the teen after the girl made the allegations. In those messages, he appeared to apologize for his actions. He also apologized during a taped phone call with her.

Will the Orlando Magic offer him his job back? Should they? Where does Goose go to get back his good name and reputation? Should the identity of his accuser now be made public?

Yes, he should get his job back. He's a great broadcaster and I've missed him.

Marv Albert was guilty, and look at him now - TNT's top play-by-play man and Westwood One chose him to call Monday Night Football!

Yes, this man should get his job back. This mother daughter team should be exposed, because the mother saw a quick buck.

The mother should be arrested.

Absolutely, he should get his job back.

A great lesson for all the STUPID men out there - this could happen to you.

14 year old girls are a lot more mature these days than their years would indicate!!!!!!! This whole case smelled of a "set-up"!!!!!

NO, absolutely not. He was in the pool and in the locked bedroom of a 14-year-old girl. There were text messages apologizing to the girl. There were taped phone calls to her. Whom do predators prey on? Kids that people won't believe. He is the adult in the situation. I believe her and I think there is more. This is the type of thing that prevents victims from coming forward. I feel he was found innocent because people don't want to believe a child molester looks like he does, he should look more like the scum that killed Jessica Lunsford. What has this child gained by having her reputation smeared and private parts presented for all to see in open court?

The accuser's name should not be revealed. She is under age. Child molesters prey on children for a reason; they have no power, and unless they can produce a videotape of the event, little or no credibility with society. I know. I lived this from the tender age of three. The first person most people blame is the child's mother. Secondly they blame the victim. Rarely is the molester blamed, especially if he is not an obvious low-life. I was molested repeatedly by some very upstanding citizens, although none as famous as the Goose. Even if I had found the strenght to tell someone, no one would have believed me. Child molesters come in all shapes, sizes and walks of life.

No one knows what really happened but him and her. He has been acquitted, will get his job back, and eventually everyone will forget this. But if he did molest her, and I can't understand why a grown man would be locked in a bedroom with a 14-year-old girl if his intentions were pure, this young girl will suffer for many, many years to come, and every aspect of her life wil be affected by this. It is a devastating event in a child's life. Have a little compassion, just in case she isn't lying.

A Survivor of Molestation
