How could they get it so wrong?

Katrina: A toll of inaccuracies by the news media

As reported by the LA Times today, the media did little to confirm or refute rumors about the mayhem and devastation caused by Katrina.

“Journalists and officials who have reviewed the Katrina disaster blamed the inaccurate reporting in large measure on the breakdown of telephone service, which prevented dissemination of accurate reports to those most in need of the information. Race may have also played a factor.

“The wild rumors filled the vacuum and seemed to gain credence with each retelling — that an infant's body had been found in a trash can, that sharks from Lake Pontchartrain were swimming through the business district, that hundreds of bodies had been stacked in the Superdome basement.”—LA Times, 9.27.05

Tim Graham from The Media Research Center joins me at 7AM to talk about it.

Wow, you guys can't be serious. I thought the "liberal press" bias was a position no one actually believed (ever watched Fox News?). But I have to say I am stunned at your lack of objectivity--and unwillingess to engage in thoughtful inquiry indepedent of fixed ideas about what is true.
The one thread that you all seem to share--forgive the generalization--is that YOU ARE A VICTIM, of the press, of the left, of the university, etc. Sheesh, grow up guys. Thoughtful positions are undermined by adhering to such immature positions.
Regards
