Assuming there is no shocking revelation or health issue, the GOP nomination is over. Conservatives need to start practicing the phrase "Nominee presumptive John McCa....."

Sorry, I can't say it. Not yet.

But it's true. When the campaign comes here to Massachusetts on February 5th, I'll proudly cast my vote for any option on the GOP ballot other than You-Know-Who, up to and including Ron Paul. But it will be a futile gesture. Mr. "1/3rd Of The GOP Primary Vote"--who lost among Republican voters again in Florida--is going to be the Republican nominee.

He's going to win the big, left-leaning states on Tuesday. Huckabee will campaign in the midwestern and southern states, denying Romney the one-on-one contest for GOP voters that Captain Amnesty would almost certainly lose. The result: More wins on February 5th for He Who Must Not Be Named, and fewer wins for Romney.

Forget delegate count. Florida has launched the one ship that Romney's money and Rush Limbaugh cannot stop: The U.S.S. Inevitable. It's gonna happen. Even if there were a realistic pathway to stop him, the media have seized control of the process now and are declaring him inevitable. Every win he gets on February 5th will be magnified by the media, every loss marginalized.

He is, after all, the favorite Republican of the New York Times.

So it is over. Finished. In November, Republicans will be sending their most liberal, least trustworthy candidate to take on Hillary Clinton--perhaps not more liberal than Barack Obama, but certainly far less trustworthy.

And the worst part for the Right is that McCain will have won the nomination while ignoring, insulting and, as of this weekend, shamelessly lying about conservatives and conservatism.

You think he supported amnesty six months ago? You think he was squishy on tax cuts and judicial nominees before? Wait until he has the power to anger every conservative in America, and feel good about it.

Every day, he dreams of a world filled with happy Democrats and insulted Republicans. And he is, thanks to Florida, the presidential nominee of the Republican Party.

And on that note, I'm off to climb into a bottle of Bushmill's.

Thanks to those geniuses in Florida, it's going to be a LONG nine months.

Tuesday night, I took a break from cleaning out my desk to attend an event with some young conservatives. About 9 p.m., one guy checked his Blackberry to see the Florida results, and the reaction -- I said they were conservatives, didn't I? -- was disappointment at the news that Crazy Cousin John had narrowly edged Mitt Romney in the winner-take-all primary.

The next reaction was equally predictable: "Oh, McCain's got momentum ... going to be hard for Romney to recover by Super Tuesday" etc., etc.

In other words, despair and defeatism, an acceptance of what The Experts have said would be the inevitable consequences of this event.

Don't quit, boys. For God's sake, don't ever quit. So long as there is room for hope, so long as victory is a possibility, so long as you have strength for the fight, you owe it to yourself to keep hoping and keep fighting.

Hope and courage must always go hand-in-hand. If you will spread hope and encouragement in this dark hour of disappointment, you will do more for your candidate than you know.

"Look," I said to my young friends, "starting Wednesday at noon, Rush Limbaugh is going to pull out all the stops. He's going to hammer McCain with everything he's got. He's going to come at him from every angle, for three solid hours, and then he's going to do it for another three hours on Thursday, then Friday, then Monday, then Tuesday. You can count on 15 hours of Rush doing all he can to persuade conservatives not to vote for McCain, and that's got to have some effect. Romney made it close in Florida, and a week is forever in politics. ...."

Et cetera. There is room for hope, and therefore there is no room for despair.

Listen up, Romneyites: You've got Rush Limbaugh on your side, and that's the kind of message-power that no other candidate can match. Rush spent a couple weeks on a Stop Huckabee jag, and then he spent a couple of weeks messing around with the whole Obama-Hillary matchup. But that's over now.

John McCain may be only 6 days away from locking up the Republican nomination, and Rush Limbaugh is 100% dedicated to preventing that. Do not underestimate that, and therefore do not despair.

Huckabee got 14% in Florida. He's your biggest obstacle to defeating Crazy Cousin John.

It's a dark, dark day in Florida politics. What have you done? What were you thinking? I must admit I grossly underestimated the gullibility of some republicans to be swayed by polls and endorsements. I also did not fully understand just how deep religious bigotry and intolerance goes in the Sunshine State when it comes to Mormons. There are winners and losers in last night's debacle. You celebrate a victory if you are an illegal alien, a R.I.N.O. or a liberal. It's a sad, sad day if you are a true conservative because the base of your party has sold their soul. To some,victory(i.e. beating Hillary) is more important than principal. I have to imagine that if Ronald Reagan were alive today there would be a tear running down his cheek.

I had to laugh last night as I watched Mel Martinez talk about John McCain being a man of honor. I wanted to ask Mel "what was honorable about committing adultery on your wife and dumping her after she was involved in a car accident and put on a little weight?" For your consideration. I saw this posted on another message board today. I thought it worthy of your attention.

The question of the age in the 1930’s was not the economy, nor abortion, nor supreme court justices. It was Nazism and its potential to overturn the very fabric of society. We did not need a Neville Chamberlain then, we needed a Winston Churchill. The question of our age is likewise not the economy, abortion, or supreme court justices. The question of the next 20 years is Militant Islam, the global jihad, the potential loss of Europe to its Muslim cultural jihad, and the entrance of nuclear terrorism. Today, we need another Churchill, another Reagan, to answer the forces arrayed against our national security. Rudy is the only candidate who has come face-to-face with the jihad and its ruthlessness. He, I believe, is the only candidate who is truly determined to defeat Islamic jihadism. McCain vs Clinton? That's not a choice that is a ticket!

John McCain must not get the GOP nomination. He's not the solution, he's part of the problem. This is a man who's been entrenched in D.C. for the last 30+ years. He's been on the wrong side of so many issues I don't have enough time or space to list them all. Most notably Illegal Immigration/Amnesty. Several newspapers in Florida have endorsed McCain including the Orlando Sentinel. That should tell you everything you need to know. The question you need to ask yourself is who is best suited to defeat him? Rudy or Mitt? You decide! God help us all if McCain wins Florida.



By the way did you see who was walking hand in hand with McCain when he was in Orlando the other day? Why Rich Crotty of course, another reason not to vote for McCain.

We all know John McCain is terrible on immigration. For years he held America’s sovereignty and security hostage to amnesty and increased immigration, and his newfound support for “enforcement first” is so insubstantial and transparently insincere that it insults our intelligence. He’s so bad that Americans for Better Immigration ranks his performance in office as the worst of all the presidential candidates — including Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. And as Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation has pointed out, passage of McCain’s bill “would represent the largest expansion of the welfare state in 30 years.”

Next time your city is being extorted by your local sports franchises for new ballparks and arenas, remember this: the Seattle Supersonics, in attempting to get out of their lease so they can move to Oklahoma City, are making the argument that they have no economic impact on the city. Isn't the argument in favor of taxpayer funding for ballparks that having the team in town brings money into the area? Finally, a team ADMITS that it's all bull.

A McCain victory in SC has to be good news for Giuliani because the narrative becomes "Stop McCain!" and Rudy's best poised to do that - not just because his numbers in Florida haven't yet collapsed to the same undetectable levels as they have everywhere else, but because Huck and Mitt and Fred will be fairly proven failures at the "Stop McCain" game. I predicted, with stunning accuracy, the victors in Iowa. On 12/26/07 and 1/1/08 I called the winners on Fox & Friends. Was it beginner's luck or did I know something the other pundits didn't?

If you read only one book in "08" make it this one

If you've listened to my show with any regularity you know that I'm an avid reader. I'm interested in many things especially the mind and how it works. I also have a keen interest in self improvement. With that in mind I'd like to recommend a book entitled Wealth Matters by Chris J. Snook. This is one of the best books I've read in quite some time. This entrepreneur has a real gift for organizing material in a concise, easy to understand way. If you want to be, have or do more in 2008 you need this book. Chris talks about the importance of getting out of your comfort zone. There is a great line on page 54 in which he states

"but by staying in your comfort zone you are today all that you will ever be, and you have today all that you will ever have".

When I read that a little light went off in my head. I said to myself "that's unacceptable, that's not good enough". If you want to find out what's holding you back, if you want to make real lasting improvement in 2008 you need to read this book. One of the things I plan to do with my new radio show is give you the tools you need to become a better you. With that in mind Chris Snook will be one of my first interviews. Examining Rudy Giuliani’s Strategy

Team Rudy has sent a strategy memo to campaign correspondents, making the case that they’re doing fine, and everything’s going according to plan.

They point that in Florida, they’re still up, averaging 30 percent, and their closest opponent is at 17 percent. They point to a similar dynamic in three other big, delegate-rich states, California (29 percent average, 15 percent for the closest rival) New Jersey (38 percent to 12 percent) and New York (40 percent to 12 percent).

Ah, but there are a few catches in that scenario. First, if Giuliani doesn’t win anything until Florida, will he still have that 13 percent lead? Or will one of the other big four be on a winning streak and be seeing a surge in the Sunshine State?

And California’s delegates are awarded by Congressional district. With a fourteen percent lead, Giuliani should walk away with a lot of them. But if a campaign made a concerted effort in those districts with not too many Republicans – Nancy Pelosi’s district, or Maxine Water’s — somebody like Ron Paul could walk away with more than a handful.According to this memo, Georgia and Illinois pick their delegates by congressional district as well. If I were Paul, I’d be running on my anti-war stand in the most Democratic districts I could find.


A key part of the Giuliani argument:

“For the record, only 78 delegates will be picked prior to Florida whereas 1,039 delegates will be picked on January 29 and February 5. Additionally, it is important to note that voting HAS ALREADY STARTED in Florida, Missouri, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey and New York - tens of thousands of people will have already cast their ballot by the time you are reading this note. And more February 5th states, including California will begin early and absentee voting soon. All of this points to the folly of over-estimating the impact of the results of Iowa and New Hampshire and the wisdom of our strategy.” There is a certain logic there; the question is, have enough ballots been cast in those states to make a significant difference? Or are we talking about, two, three, four percent here on the margins?

They also note:

Because states selecting delegates before February 5th are in violation of Republican National Committee rules, those states have been penalized half of their normal delegates; Iowa, Nevada, and Maine do not select any delegates at their caucuses, but rather at state party conventions in late spring. The states before February 5th will allocate delegates to multiple candidates under varying state election laws and state party rules. Thus, it is highly unlikely that any single candidate will win all of any one state's delegates except Florida's, which will be winner-take-all. Florida accounts for more than 40% of all delegates allocated before February 5th and has almost twice as many delegates as the next largest state. It is therefore easy and correct to conclude that in a multiple candidate race, whichever candidate wins Florida, with their winner-take-all delegates, will very likely have a delegate lead going into February 5th. Yes, but what are the odds that Iowa’s delegates will shift away from the caucus winner in significant proportions at their state convention? Is Team Rudy suggesting he can finish with, say, ten percent Thursday night, and later walk away with a much higher percentage of the delegates? Also, I figure the RNC’s “half-delegates” rule will spur an all-out fight if it ends up playing a role in who the nominee is. This will probably make Florida 2008 look like a tea party.

“Most importantly, a bloc of 201 winner-take-all delegates will be at stake in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Delaware, all states in which Mayor Giuliani has double digit leads.”

Yup, I’m penciling those into Rudy’s column. But then again, just about everybody has from the beginning.
